Isn’t it strange how complex street-maps can sometimes look like a reflection of nature? Humans refer to nature as inspiration for construction, but we rarely pay enough attention to impacts on nature from the constructions. Nature is honored for its structure, but not as a part of human existence. Inspired by Ellen Harvey’s portfolio of artworks, this workshop will use maps to create natural objects by gluing map fragments double-sided onto card stock papers cut out in natural shapes from stencils.
As an emerging New York artist originally from Oregon, Anthony Heinz May is fascinated by relationships humans have built with the natural environment. Experience between the natural and artificial surroundings of where he grew up and now lives respectively, creates the momentum and many points of intersection behind his artistic pursuits.
