Inspired by the faux stained glass mural by Raúl de Nieves in the 2017 Whitney Biennial, visitors will create their own “stained glass” artworks. Nieves’ mural celebrates the journey of his life by using the artwork as a “remembrance” and pushing the boundaries of a traditional art medium by creating it with paper, wood, glue, tape, beads, and acetate sheets. In the same spirit as Raul de Nieves, young artists will challenge the definition of stained glass by using colored cellophane, black paper, and colorful permanent markers to celebrate and illustrate their own journeys in “stained glass.”
