Students will bring their favorite stories to life as they become familiar with professional illustrator techniques including, pen and ink drawings, watercolor paintings, and cartooning! Drawing inspiration from the likes of Edward Gorey, Maurice Sendak, Roz Chast, Saul Steinberg and Eric Carle, young artists will build a vocabulary in the techniques used by some of the most well known illustrators of our time. Over the course of the semester, they will analyze the concept of narrative and experiment with methods in advertising, comics, cartooning, sequential storyboarding, and character design. They will leave the class with a portfolio of their own illustrated works.
