Go beyond narrative animation into an abstract world of moving images! This experimental class will expose young artists to the broad array of animating techniques and materials, including stop motion, sand, rotoscoping, paper, light table and film scratching inspired by artists like Viking Eggeling and Stan Brakhage. Students will explore visual language in motion with the freedom that abstract animation offers, while paying close attention to the technical structure that is part of any film. This includes the proper use of equipment, setup, software, and editing. Students will work both independently and in small groups to animate, edit, and create original sound for the film that they will share with family and friends at the end of the semester!
