Keith Haring, M.C Escher and Beatrix Potter all got their big break from drawing! This class will focus on the diversity of drawing, from traditional to non-traditional techniques. It will emphasize the importance of observational drawing skills as well as working from the imagination. Artists develop techniques in perspective and composition as they observe and explore the landscape of New York City. Then using a variety of materials including Sumi Ink, string, charcoal and pencil, young artists will learn how drawing translates across different genres such as painting, sculpture, and installation. Students will also be exposed to a variety of contemporary artists such as Pam Glick and Kiki Smith.
