Discover the many ways to represent a person’s persona through symbolic reference and design! In this mixed media class, young artists will be challenged to create portraits through a variety of 2D and 3D art projects. After a series of brainstorming and sketching exercises, they will experiment with art’s fundamental elements including scale, color, and texture. As the week progresses, artists will explore color theory and paint mixing. Teaching Artists will introduce students to contemporary portrait artists such as Mickalene Thomas, Cindy Sherman, Amy Sherald, and Elia Alba. This class will develop young artists’ techniques in portraiture using various media.
