Put on your science and art hats and look at nature as if it were a new puzzle! Young artists will use wood blocks cut from trees to craft, build, and develop their own imaginative interventions in the natural environment of Governor’s Island. Sawing, sanding, and joining will be some of the techniques learned this week. Children will get inspired by Andy Goldsworthy, Robert Smithson and Anthony Heinz May.
As an emerging New York artist originally from Oregon, Anthony Heinz May is fascinated by relationships humans have built with the natural environment. Experience between the natural and artificial surroundings of where he grew up and now lives respectively, creates the momentum and many points of intersection behind his artistic pursuits.
