2nd Annual Lunar New Year Family Festival
In Partnership with MOCA (Museum of Chinese in America)
Ring in the Year of the Tiger with Art!
February 6 & 7, 2010
12:00-5:00 pm
Join CMA for a special celebration weekend of Chinese arts and culture. In our 2nd annual Lunar New Year Family Festival, visitors will explore both ancient and modern Chinese art, music, dance, and theater. The weekend-long festival will feature guest artists, performances, and workshops.

Saturday, February 6
- Columbia Chinese Yo-Yo will perform from 12:30-2:30pm
- Artist Peter Yip will teach you how to silkscreen and create your own tiger puppet using fabric and paint. Two sessions: 12-1:30pm and 2:00-3:30pm ($5 materials fee per child, free for adults in addition to admission, pre registration required please contact Claire Marcus, cmarcus@cmany.org, to register)
- Kam Mak will host a storytelling and art workshop at 4:00pm and 4:30pm
- Workshops exploring the Year of the Tiger and traditional Chinese art forms with CMA teaching artists- Ongoing from 12-5pm
Sunday, February 7
Events will take place throughout the day at both CMA and MOCA (located only one block away). Purchase admission at either location on 2/7/10 and receive 50% off admission at the other museum.
At CMA:
- Participate in the ancient art of the Chinese Lion Dance- 12:30pm performance, 12:45pm workshop, 1:15pm final performance
- Interactive Puppet show “Hao Bang Ya, Tiger!”, a glove puppet performance by the Chinese Theater Works, 2pm and 3pm
- Performance by Radiance Chinese Dance Company- 3:45pm, 4:00pm Workshop
- Workshops exploring the Year of the Tiger and traditional Chinese art forms with CMA teaching artists- Ongoing from 12-5pm
At MOCA:
- Ni Hao! Storytelling & Mandarin Workshop - 10:00am
- Participate in the ancient art of the Chinese Lion Dance - 11:00am performance, 11:15am workshop
- Cake Decorating Workshop with New Year Symbols and Designs - 3:45pm
- Watch a noodle-making demonstration – 1:00pm
- Family-friendly gallery talks of MOCA's core exhibit, With a Single Step: Stories in the Making of America - Ongoing from 10:00am-5:00pm
- Raffle prizes - Gourmet tiger-shaped cookies and family memberships!

Celebrate Valentine's Day with the ones you love at CMA! We'll be offering a variety of fun Valentine's Day related workshops, all free with general admission.
