This Week in Illustration

As Illustration camp came to an end, students attempted to illustrate music — one student, Vera, stated that the hit song from Frozen “sounded like the ocean” while Ariana expressed that the song of the day made her feel “like sliding down a rainbow.” Students learned about the sci-fi illustrations of artist Doug Chaing, the Victorian sketches of Edward Gorey, and listened to our guest poet read Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot. Artists sketched images inspired by the book, which contained many delightful drawings of cats, and then finished their own illustration book. View the students’ online exhibition of work here and watch a short film compiled by Teaching Artist Jacob Hicks below.

Summer Art Colony continues online through August.
