This Week in Set Design

This week in Set Design, students learned essential skills in interior design, lighting design, and prop creation inspired by the silent film A Trip to the Moon and the artworks of Alexander Calder, Lori NixKathleen Gerber, and James Turrell. Midweek, the students enjoyed a virtual studio visit with artist Jamie Emerson (check out an interview with the artist here), who creates mobile sets from found materials. Finally, the class created miniature sets and installed a set in their own rooms! As one student remarked, “I wanted to add a pool because  the penguins should have a tropical feel.” Check out the students’ collaborative film below.
