Make your own mini clay creation! David will lead a step-by-step lesson on how to make your very own clay sculpture. Next, young artists will add in details to give their sculptures a story. Themes will rotate weekly. Class size is limited to 8 children. This class is led by David Lee, CMA Marketing Coordinator and Teaching Artist.

This class takes place on Wednesdays through August 26. Class times are listed in Eastern Time (ET).

Materials: modeling clay (we suggest Sargent Art Clay from Dick Blick, or use a DIY air-dry clay recipe), pencil, cardboard square.

Please Note: This class will be recorded for educational and promotional purposes. If you do not wish to have your image or name on screen, please join with audio only and rename yourself using the Zoom rename options.

Weekly Themes

July 1: Fantasy Island Getaway

If you could have your very own island, what would it look like? Will you make a volcano island? A lush tropical oasis? A sugary candy land? The only limit is your imagination (and the ocean!)

July 8: Ocean Creatures

The ocean is full of undiscovered creatures. How many animals can you think of that live in the sea? Let’s sculpt dolphins, whales, sharks, octopi, seals, walrus, starfish, and many more ocean friends!

July 15: Create a Hero

What kind of superpower do you want? Students will make a simple human bust with the instructor. Add details like color, shape, and texture to communicate your own special power!

July 22: Protective Communities

Students will recreate their neighborhoods or imagine their own communities that they can watch over and protect, using simple, repeatable shapes. What kind of city or town will you make?

July 29: Tiny Monuments

Is there a superhero in your life? Students will learn how to make their own tiny park including a small memorial statue dedicated to a hero, real or fictional.

August 5: Puppy Sidekick

Every hero needs a sidekick! In this class, students will learn step-by-step how to make a dog. Create your sidekick pup with a cap and accessories!
