Spend the summer with Children’s Museum of the Arts on Governors Island! CMA has a historic home on the island where we have set up a fine arts studio and media lab to run week-long summer camps from June through August. Your child can capture the magnificence of the island with photography, design sculptures with sustainable materials, learn how to animate their own film, illustrate their own story, and so much more!
Our technique-based classes are led by CMA’s team of Teaching Artists who design each camp’s curriculum off their own artistic practices. Campers have the unique opportunity to learn comic book design from illustrators, animation from filmmakers, screen printing from textile artists, and more. Sign up your young creator for as many weeks as you wish. There is convenient camper drop-off and pick-up location at the Governors Island Ferry Terminal in Battery Park, Manhattan.

All campers must be dropped off at the Governors Island Ferry loading dock at the Battery Maritime Building (10 South St.) and signed over to CMA staff before the 9AM ferry.

Campers will have time for supervised play in Nolan Park before class begins.
Art class runs from 10AM - 4PM. Classes take an hour lunch break at 12PM, with supervised outdoor play on the Island. Campers must bring lunch, snacks, a water bottle and sunscreen.
Campers will have one hour of supervised play in Nolan Park before returning on the ferry.
Campers and CMA staff take the ferry back to the Battery Maritime Building to meet parents for pick up. Parents must sign out campers with CMA staff.
Caregivers picking up campers after 5:10PM will be subject to a $25 late pickup fee.
Due to ferry schedules, CMA does not offer extended day options for our camps on Governors Island.
CMA is not responsible for providing make-up classes or issuing refunds for programs missed as a result of illness, emergencies or other events beyond our control. If you would like to cancel your enrollment in a class, CMA will provide you with a full refund minus a $75 registration fee up to two weeks prior to the start of class. Within two weeks of the start of the class, CMA will provide you with a full refund minus the $75 registration fee ONLY if CMA is able to fill your child’s place in the class. If CMA is unable to fill the place in the class, the class will be non-refundable.
CMA reserves the right to cancel any class due to low enrollment. If a class has 0 students enrolled, you will be notified of the cancellation 4 weeks prior to the start of the class. If a class has only 3 students and under enrolled, you will be notified of the cancellation 2 weeks prior to the start date. If CMA cancels a class that your child is enrolled in, you will have the option to switch classes within the program or receive a full refund. Please sign up early to ensure classes proceed as scheduled.
CMA requires all participating students to have a CMA Health Form on file to protect the wellness and safety of that child and their classmates. The first page must be completed and signed by a Parent or Caregiver. General health records may be attached in place of the second page.
CMA Health Forms are good for one year. Please submit all health forms to firstname.lastname@example.org or hand in the first day of class.
CMA programs are designed with a developmental age group in mind. The age restrictions noted for each class is our recommended age range, but children who are slightly older or younger are invited to join the class as long as parents/caregivers understand possible challenges. We recommend that the age variation is no more than 6 months older or younger than the stated age range.
