In this Art Colony, students will be introduced to the world of costume and cosplay. A contraction of Costume Play, this Japanese-coined form of expression has its roots in comic and fantasy book culture and has more recently expanded into video games and steampunk. Young artists will create a pop-culture character for themselves, spending their days creating their costumes out of fabric, cardboard, and found materials. Inspiration will be taken from cosplayers who have attained cult-status, each of whom have an eye for detail, realism, and adherence to authenticity in their designs. Some of these include Juan Carlos & Shema Arroyo, Tom DePetrillo, and Alodia Gosiengfiao, to name a few. Bring your own character to life!
