Animal drawings have been around us since 400,000 BC and continue to be iconic figures in art. In this week-long immersive drawing and painting experience, your young artist will sketch animals from observation as they expand their knowledge of the animal kingdom.

Students will experiment with a variety of artistic approaches using traditional materials such as ink, pencil, charcoal, watercolor, and acrylic. Along the way, they will explore techniques such as live observational sketching, comparative anatomy and proportion, shading, and gradients. Students will also learn to critique their work, and the work of their peers, using the guiding principles of balance, proportion, rhythm, emphasis, variety, and unity.

This immersive drawing and painting experience will culminate in students’ animal illustrations on display in CMA’s gallery.
