Members Only: Jacob Lawrence

Thursday, Feb 28, 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm
At CMA, 103 Charlton Street, New York

Perhaps one of the best known African-American painters and storytellers of the 20th century, Jacob Lawrence’s artistic talent shown from an early age. Gaining national recognition at only 20 years old his vibrant depictions of African-American rural life, South to North migration, and of the neighborhood he was raised in, Harlem, brought an unparalleled liveliness to the everyday happenings and experiences of working-class Black Americans. Using water-based media just as he did, young artists will create a series of vignettes, capturing the stories of their daily life and neighborhoods.
