Movie Posters and Mixed Mediums

Ever wonder what a movie about your life would look like? This week, students had the chance to design film posters with themselves as the titular characters. They focused on key elements such as title, composition, and color choice inspired by Studio Ghibli.

As a class, they discussed design choices, asking such questions as: Would a film still work for this poster, or would a minimalist version look better? 

Students further honed their skills in painting and oil pastels, even becoming comfortable mixing mediums.

This assignment required a particular focus on juggling multiple elements, such as title selection and placement, central drawing  / composition, and color selection. They needed extra encouragement, but rose to the occasion beautifully. 

One student in particular has really sprung to life during these last few assignments. His imagination is extraordinary and translates superbly well through narrative drawings.

Noormah’s work at Children’s Workshop School is supported by the Emergency Arts Education Fund, which provides free arts education to NYC school communities whose art programs have been decimated by recent budget cuts.

Children’s Museum of the Arts’ three Residents Artists are currently implementing ambitious arts curriculum at each of our partner sites throughout New York City: Hudson Guild in Chelsea, Sid Miller Academy in Crown Heights, and Children’s Workshop School in the East Village.
