You’re invited to Children’s Museum of the Arts’ fall gala at David Zwirner honoring author Doro Globus and philanthropist Cynthia C. Wainwright on Wednesday, October 18 from 6–9 PM.
The gala takes place at David Zwirner’s 69th Street gallery and features a private tour of the current Emma McIntyre exhibition. Indulge in a seasonal menu of canapes created by the award-winning team at BITE New York, paired with Dobel craft cocktails, sweet treats from The Rounds, carefully curated wines of Origins Collection, and the finest bubbles courtesy of Champagne Taittinger. Guests will enjoy a roving performance of melodic improvisations by musical artist Michaël Valeanu and a presentation of rarely-seen works from CMA's Permanent Collection.
About The Emergency Arts Education Fund
When a child loses access to the arts, it's an emergency.
The Emergency Arts Education Fund was formed in response to continued DOE budget cuts (-$200M in FY23) and the decimation of art classes in local schools. Children’s Museum of the Arts believes the ongoing insecurity of arts education is a public health and creativity crisis deserving of immediate assistance.
The Emergency Arts Education Fund is an intentional expansion of CMA’s In-School Residency Program. For over 15 years, CMA has brought local artists to lead high-quality arts education curricula at low-income schools with dire need. Entirely free. CMA provides all necessary art materials to each school and develops a catered curriculum representative of the vibrant neighborhoods and cultures in the communities where our schools reside.
About the Ambassador Program
Ambassadors take an active role in promoting the utterly ambitious work our Resident Artists are doing in New York City classrooms. They receive behind-the-scenes access to the work of our Resident Artists at our three partner sites — Children’s Workshop School in the East Village, Sid Miller Academy in Crown Heights, and Hudson Guild in Chelsea — as well as digital tools to share their advocacy all year long. About Doro Globus
Doro Globus is the associate publisher of David Zwirner Books and has worked in arts publishing for fifteen years. She is the author of Making a Great Exhibition, a colorful and playful introduction to art for children ages 3 to 7. Having worked in art galleries and publishing throughout her career, Globus has an inside perspective on how artists work. As a mother of two, she has always been interested in sharing more about art and museums with kids. She has edited a wide variety of books from Michael Bracewell: The Space Between (2012) to About Bridget Riley: Selected Writings 1999–2016 (2017) and has written on Dawn Ades, Bridget Riley, Fred Wilson, and others.
About Cynthia C. Wainwright
In addition to 30 years of devoted board service to Children’s Museum of the Arts, Cynthia C. Wainwright has championed artists, young and old, to reach their full potential and extend the limits of what’s possible. Cynthia is an avid supporter of many philanthropic causes and actively participates in several nonprofit organizations in the New York City area. She has served as President of the Board of Directors at The Bridge, Inc., a citywide mental health agency, for 30 years and as a member of the boards of the Roundabout Theatre Company, the American Classical Orchestra, and the Historic House Trust of New York City, of which she was a founder. Together with her husband, Stephen Berger, she is the founder and Chairman of Odyssey Investment Partners, LP. Cynthia retired as Deputy Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at JPMorgan Chase in 2001. She was Director of Corporate Social Responsibility for Chemical / Chase Manhattan banks from 1989 to 1998. She previously held a variety of other managerial positions at Chemical Bank. From 1969 to 1979, Cynthia worked in New York City and State governments. Her last position was as Deputy Commissioner of the New York City Department of Correction. Cynthia attended Sarah Lawrence College and earned an MBA from Columbia Business School. She has two daughters, Robin and Diana who frequented Children’s Museum of the Arts’ former Spring Street location.
Our gratitude for her efforts to strengthen the legacy of Children’s Museum of the Arts with her service is overwhelming, and we are honored to recognize her with a Lifetime Achievement Award on the Museum’s 35th anniversary.
