To coincide with Home Sweet Home: Is a Home a Sanctuary?, we invited CMA’s staff of talented Teaching Artists to share work of their own. Common Ground brings together eleven CMA Teaching Artists whose artistic practices span photography, sculpture, ceramics, painting, embroidery, and more. Invited to respond to the prompt “what does home mean to you?” and “how does your background influence your practice?” these artists explore themes of gentrification, cultural identity, childhood memories, and nature as sanctuary. Deeply personal stories permeated the stock of submissions, with skilled technical and artistic ability giving way to truthful snapshots of life. As a team of individuals coming from all over the world, we are reminded that CMA is the common ground that we share as Teaching Artists.
Artists include Carmen Recio, Tara Kothari, Lynn Roselli, Luyi Wang, Hannah Tishkoff, Jacob Hicks, Laura Hetzel, Phyllis Yao, Deepti Sunder, Sofía del Mar Collins, and Julia Zubrovich. This exhibition is organized by Ian Tousius, Lead Fine Arts Teaching Artist and Weekend Supervisor.
